Others who died in World War II

This page lists those in the forces who died in World War II and have links with Kenilworth but are not on the memorial, together with civilians who died in Kenilworth during the second world war and are recorded by the Kenilworth Urban District. Most died as a result of a stray German bomb, intended as part of the German blitz on Coventry but dropped on Kenilworth in Abbey End, not far from the Memorial. Many of these had travelled from Coventry to be safe from enemy action.

MAGINNISS Hugh

Private, 5114456, aged 26. Originally serving with the Royal Warwickshire Regiment, transferred to the 2nd Battalion Royal Norfolk Regiment. Killed in Action near the village of Saye in Burma on 19 February 1945. Buried in the Taukkyan War Cemetery (Grave 19 B 15) transferred from a battlefield site near Mandalay. The second son of Daniel and Polly Maginniss, of 11 High Street, Kenilworth, who moved there in late 1939 from a house at the Armstrong-Siddeley Works at Parkside in Coventry because of the threat posed by air attack on the factory. Apart from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and his school, Hugh does not appear to be commemorated anywhere: in Coventry where he was born, in Birmingham where he worked, in Kenilworth where his family lived, nor in Norwich on the Regimental plaque in the Royal Norfolk Chapel in the Cathedral.
