SAIL through Mathematics Components

The mathematics learning activities that Richard Skemp developed for school children from kindergarten through age 11 or 12 are contained in two teacher resource books, SAIL through Mathematics, Volume 1 and Volume 2, and two books of photomasters (blackline masters), SAIL through Mathematics, Volume 1a and Volume 2a. In addition to the activity instructions, Volumes 1 and 2 feature "A Teacher's Guide," concept maps, sequencing guides, progress records, and "discussion boxes," in which the theory underlying the activities and implementation fine points are discussed. There is companion theory-for-teachers paperback, Mathematics in the Primary School. And there are VHS videocassetes showing: children being introduced to 31 of the activities; classroom lessons in which the activities are being used; and Richard Skemp discussing the activities and the theory which they embody. Descriptions of each of these components of the SAIL through Mathematics program follow.

Inquiries about the availability of any of the SAIL through Mathematics materials may be directed to Dr. Bruce Harrison at dbharris@ucalgary,ca.
