Harry and his brother Roland were cyclists. Harry was particularly good at long distances. He would think nothing of leaving Wellingborough at 6 am on a Sunday, cycle to Hunstanton, 80 miles away to arrive at 10 am, have fun until 6 pm and then cycle back for bed at 10 pm.

Dad in his soldier's uniform in front of Mum's bungalow. This was a single room. To the right Dad built another bungalow in which he kept his canaries. Later, Uncle Reg came over and joined the two together, adding a kitchen and a shed. David well remembers this, so it must have been in the late 40s early 50s. A later, colour picture of all the bungalows in their final form is found in Nan Nichols folder.

Harry Tall was in a reserved occupation, making and repairing shoes, so he missed most of the action at the beginning of the war. But he had his turn, going to Dusseldorf after the war.

Our lovely dad, Harry, as we remember him.
Harry was an easy going bloke. He would spend his time walking around and visiting friends and family. He wouldn't stay long, just to smile and have a cup of tea. One of his great pleasures was buying and selling from Wilfords Auctioneers. He wasnt very good at it, but he enjoyed it. This included all sorts of items, including a harmonium for David.
He was the only member of his family who continued to get on with his brothers and sisters. Uncle Bert, for instance, blotted his copy book by going off with another woman ... very serious in those days. Harry stayed friends with all of them. He told each of his sons, David and Graham, 'You'll have lots of friends boy, but you'll only ever have one brother ... Look after him." We have done.

Harry's dog Jenny balancing a ball
Jenny was dad's best pal. He taught her to hold a sweet or other goody on her nose, then when he said 'pay for', she would throw it in the air and catch it. Here she is doing the trick with a ball.
