Nancy and Harry Tall's wedding

Overstone around 1940
The Nichols family built three bungalows at Overstone Solarium in the late thirties to use in their holidays, Nancy had the bungalow on the left of the picture, her parents Frank and Lillian in the middle, and brother Bill on the right. Later, (see colour photo), Nancy and Harry put two single room bungalows together, with Harry's brother Reg doing the carpentry, to build a bungalow with living room, bedroom (bunk beds for the boys, single bed for Rosey and double bed for Nancy and Harry), and kitchen with calor gas cooking stove.

Graham with Nan Nichols at Overstone mid 1950s.
Graham with Nan in the summer at Overstone in the Mid fifties. Those long lazy summers were wonderful. Six weeks of school holidays and weekends before and after, playing in the woods, cricket and tennis (after a fashion) in the field, swimming, fishing, catching butterflies, tadpoles, newts, looking for birds nests. Fantastic! Every evening playing cards in the light of an oil-lamp, with a wind-up gramophone ('waiting for the last roundup' etc), a battery driven radio (Rays a Laugh, Itma, Archie Andrews, Life with the Lions, Navy Lark etc etc).

Harry, Nancy and baby David
Harry, Nancy and baby David. David had curly blond hair. Nancy always wanted a little girl. Graham never had curls, but when Rosey was born, she was the gift Nancy always wanted. Meanwhile David was dressed up to the nines and looked a real little beauty.

Their young children David, Graham and Rosemary
The three children in studio photographs.
