Notes for White BETT | ||||||||||||||
NCRO Ref LA1/box 95/3 Licenses 1693 White Bett, Little Addington, Jobber, 4th Quarter Vol 1 1696 White Bett, Ringstead, Drover, 4th Quarter Vol 1. 1698 White Bett, Ringstead, Drover, 4th Quarter Vol 1. These refer to the licenses certain occupations required such as jobbers, drovers, chapman, higgler, etc. White Bett was a Jobber before his marriage to Elizabeth Peacock. (He married in 1695). There are various definitions for a jobber incuding someone who buys in bulk and then sells on, to one who lets out carriages and horses. Upon marriage he was obviously working his father-in-law's farm and he needed a licence as a drover. A Drover is a buyer and seller of all manner of cattle. Will | ||||||||||||||
